The Royal National Mòd
The biggest Gaelic Music Festival in Scotland
is coming to CAITHNESS this year.
The announcement was made in October 2007 at the Lochaber Mòd in Fort William and a Local Organising Committee (LOC) has been working hard to make preparations. The Caithness Mòd, or Mòd Ghallaibh, will take place between Friday 8th October and Saturday 16th October 2010.
The video below was produced by An Comunn Gaidhealach and is a great way of finding out all about the Mod. The footage was recorded at the National Mod in Oban in 2009.
The Royal National Mòd is organised by An Comunn Gaidhealach and is assisted by the LOC who are delighted to have received financial support from The NDA, LEADER Highland and Bord Na Gaidhlig as well as the many others listed under the sponsors section of this website.
"The National Mod will bring opportunities to market Caithness to the wider world, to show them the area at its best and get the message out that Caithness is a great place to come to. The NDA is pleased to fund the local organising committee because we want to see a lasting economic legacy from this event.”
Randall Bargelt
Programme Director NDA
The LOC is making arrangements and fund-raising to have the county ready to receive the thousands of organisers, visitors and competitors that attend during the week of the festival. Their main aim is to ensure that everyone has an enjoyable “Mòd” experience – both locals and visitors to the county.
A considerable programme of activity in Caithness is currently taking place raising the profile of the Gaelic language, culture and music within the county including language workshops, fèisean, local Mòd activities, ceilidhs, other entertainment and fund raising events.
Although Caithness is the most northerly county on the mainland, the local community and organising committee are committed to ensuring that everyone will receive a warm and friendly welcome. The committee trusts that this website will help you in finding out all about our county and our plans for hosting the National Mòd in 2010. Please contact us if you have any questions.
